Vertical Traction Therapy in Idaho Falls

model of a spineAt Summit Spine and Sport Chiropractic , we offer vertical traction therapy using the ProtecSpine spinal decompression device. This type of floating manipulative therapy (FMT) reduces intervertebral disc pressure by either lifting or suspending the body.

This modality supplies nutrition to the discs and uses continuous compression and decompression within the discs. With FMT, we can provide different types of movement therapy for the low back, hips, legs, and neck.

The device works by opening up the disc spaces and taking pressure off the joint capsules. An anterior force is created that attempts to pull that disc tissue back in or allow the lymphatic channels to open and let the inflammation drain out.

NEW PATIENTS

Who Can Benefit?

This service is ideal for anyone with nonspecific back or neck pain. The therapy gets good results with many conditions, including the following:

  • Spondylosis
  • Central canal stenosis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Sciatic pain
  • Sacroiliitis
  • Lumbago (including with sciatica)
  • Neck and shoulder issues
  • Numbness and tingling into the hands.

What to Expect

We will place and secure you into the chair and ensure you’re comfortable. Then we will go through a series of progressing levels of decompression until you’re in the proper position for the therapy needed.

You’ll be taken through some general ranges of motion and get some rapid release on the muscles using a massager. When we get you out of the chair, the goal is that you’ve achieved significant pain relief and improvement in motion and function, whether you have a cervical or lumbar issue.

FAQ

Is the therapy painful?

No. The straps around the torso can be tight, however, but we can use other harnesses to decrease any tightness. “I like to tell people, ‘you might dislike me for a few minutes, but will love me for a couple days,'” said Dr. Arritt.

How much does it cost & does insurance cover this service?

A treatment session is $40, on top of the cost of a standard chiropractic adjustment. Depending on the insurance you have, the treatment may be covered. It’s commonly billed as manual therapy or therapeutic exercise.

Do you provide exercises along with the treatment?

Yes, we often assign patient home care exercises as part of their plan if we think these movements are necessary.
